About Giclée
What is Giclée printing?
Pronounced "zhee-KLAY", Giclée is a French word meaning 'a spray or a squirt of liquid'. The term 'giclée print' is used to describe the giclée printing process.
Giclée printing is essentially digital inkjet printing - using high quality pigment inks on archival grade paper. Giclée printing has quickly become a convenient method for artists to produce museum quality prints of their work on demand. The latest pigment inks and substrates have vastly extended the longevity of giclée prints allowing them to become art objects in their own right, even making them collectable for museums and galleries. Prints will be exactly the same at the start and end of a print run - even if the run is interrupted and printed on different occasions. This means that the high cost and risk of producing a complete print edition all at once is avoided.
Photography & Scanning
The most important stage in the reproduction process is the origination. With more than 30 years in the photographic profession we utilise the skills, experience and specialist equipment of Giclée Masters (Treforest) to perfectly match our prints, paying close attention to the fine detail and colours used in the original artwork to give a virtual clone. This attention to detail is extremely important as if any detail is lost at the scanning stage the final print quality will not match the original.
Printing
The specialist Epson and Canon printers used to produce our prints are highly acclaimed in the Fine Art printing industry. These printers offer the ultimate in ink stability (over 100 years) and an amazing colour gamut that has wowed the art world. From strong, vibrant colours to the most subtle of graduations, anything can be achieved and the outcomes will satisfy the most demanding inspection.
Summary
To conclude, the process and materials we use are of the best quality. Our prints are produced using colours with pigmentation so deep and rich that their saturation and lustre lasts over 100 years. You can rest assured that the works available here will not dissapoint. We maintain the highest standards, with each print being personally inspected and hand-signed by the artist before shipping.
